Introductory Post: New Blogger Kelly Guimont

Howdy! (That's a traditional greeting from Out West.) I'm a new blogger here on TUAW. I made an appearance here from Macworld 2008 when I demonstrated software on the show floor. I've been a Macintosh user in some form or another since very early on (I drew with a turtle and don't understand versions of Oregon Trail that are anything but green), and I'm currently Leopard Certified.
I live in Portland, Oregon, which is a great place to be a Mac Geek since we have three Apple retail stores and loads of Mac places besides. My current setup is a Unibody MacBook and an iPhone 3G, but I still get some mileage out of my 80gb iPod and I still have a PowerBook G4 and a blueberry iMac DV around in case I need them -- you never know!
My house has a lot of gadgetry (right now the network has about a dozen IP addresses assigned) and general geekery: Star Wars, Disney, and Lord Of The Rings tidbits are all over the place.
As writing goes, I've written all sorts of things for all sorts of reasons/groups/publications such as Mac|Life and local computer magazines, blogged here and there, and written short stories and other pieces just for fun.
In my copious amounts of free time, I help organize events within the Portland Tech community including Open Source Bridge and Beer and Blog, and I am the head of the Portland WordPress User Group, spreading the blogging love wherever I can.
I am very excited to be part of TUAW and as I'm sure anyone who knows me will tell you, I can't wait for you to hear what I have to say! :)
North Carolina Blogger Charged With “CyberStalking”

Maybe Jeff Martin just has a crush?
Probably not.
A North Carolina blogger has been charged with cyberstalking after reportedly sending 27 emails in one hour to a fellow blogger who disagreed with him on a dam project in the region.
Mr. Martin, who writes the blog “Vie de Malchance” (In English this means “Life of Misfortune”) and Dr. Mary Johnson who pens the blog “Dr. J’s House,” have reportedly been at each others throats for some time.
Mr. Martin claims she is “crazy” and has posted more than 400 comments on his blog opposing his views and has called her a “woman scorned.”
Dr. Johnson had no comment to a local news network.
FreeRyanToday.com disagrees with Mr. Martin!
First, anyone who uses the url fecundstench.com may be a “tad” crazy.
Second, even if Dr. Johnson disagrees with you, the point of blogging is to comment back and fourth on each others blog. And really, 400 comments over the course of several years is not that many. Although it may hint at a bit of obsession, depending on the time frame.
Not everyone agrees what I write that’s for sure, but it wouldn’t give me the right to send 27 threatening emails in an hour!
Now that is crazy, buddy!
(Although I have thought about spamming a certain Premier to get my point across about his ridiculous taxes, ha ha!)
As much as I love my blogging — and have been known to spend a quiet Friday night at home doing it — I think people this obsessed give all bloggers a bad name.
You grew up in America!
How bad could your life be fecundstench?
Unmasked ‘Skanks’ blogger threatens to sue Google

Rosemary Port, a blogger who was recently unmasked as the author of a spiteful blog targeting a fashion model, plans to sue Google for revealing her identity.
Last year, Port, 29, created a blog on Google-owned blogger.com called ‘Skanks of NYC’, featuring images of 37 year old New-York-based model Liskula Cohen (pictured), along with offensive remarks relating to her sexual practices, appearance, and hygiene. The site – since deleted – was apparently created as a revenge attack on the model, who had allegedly spoken badly of Port to an ex-boyfriend.
Shocked by the blog and considering a defamation suit, Cohen instructed her lawyers to identify the creator. New York state supreme court judge Joan Madden ordered Google to turn over the identity of Port. Google responded by providing an IP address and email address identifying the 29 year old.
Although she initially launched a US$3 million defamation suit against Port, Cohen had a change of heart and dropped the lawsuit. Explaining the about-face, Cohen said:
This is about forgiveness. It adds nothing to my life to hurt hers. I wish her happiness.
Port is far from happy, however, and plans to sue Google in a US$18 million lawsuit for capitulating to the court and revealing her identity.
Port’s lawyer, Salvatore Strazzullo, said:
I’m ready to take this all the way to the Supreme Court … Our Founding Fathers wrote The Federalist Papers under pseudonyms. Inherent in the First Amendment is the right to speak anonymously. Shouldn’t that right extend to the new public square of the internet?
The next Pulitzer Prize could go to a blogger

Journalists are having an identity crisis. The introduction of internet-only news sites and blogs has muddied the waters when it comes to the once simple question of who is a journalist. Writing exclusively online has excluded many journalists for consideration when it comes to the prestigious Pulitzer Prize .
The Pulitzer Prize, awarded by Columbia University, has previously excluded many online journalists for consideration, but I am happy to say that has changed. The Associated Press has reported that a requirement, which would have limited entries to websites which are “primarily dedicated” to original news coverage, has been dropped from all 14 award categories. This opens the door to allow blogs and news websites to be considered for inclusion in award deliberations.
Now you won’t be seeing me clearing off a space anytime soon for my Pulitzer Prize, but it is a honor and refreshing to know that is at least a possibility. The Pulitzer Prize committee has planted a stake in the ground for what it believes to be journalism, now it’s time for other organization to follow suit.
Punk Hairstyles Ideas for Girls

There has always been an attraction related to punk
Because going short is not an option for everyone hairstylists have created beautiful punk hairstyles on medium as well an on long hairstyles. The cut is what gives the edge and the cool look to the hairstyle so punk hairstyles don't keep count of hair length anymore.Hairstylists have created a variety of stylish short haircuts which suit women perfectly so short hairstyles have become one of the most popular hairstyles of the year. Punk hairstyles have a bit more of a twist implemented through the cut and the new hair cutting techniques give an amazing look to the finished hairstyle, depending on the desired result.
For women who love punk hairstyles but still want to maintain a feminine look, hairstyles that are cut longer on top and shorter on the sides are a great option as they offer more versatility to the style. Faux-hawks as well as side swept pointy bangs that cover a bit of the forehead look great with short punk hairstyles. Choose the length that works best for you and your face shape. Oval face shapes work best with short hairstyles and round face shapes should avoid going short as short hairstyles frame the face and emphasize the features. Medium length and long hairstyles look gorgeous with punk cuts. Choppy layers and sharp cuts give this hair length the punk style they need. The new punk hairstyles can have blunt bangs created on straight layered messy tresses. For a very distinct look go for the razor cut hair on the side of the head and braid a Mohawk on top of your head. This is a show stopping hairstyle that attracts attention like a magnet.
Choose a natural hair color or highlight your hair using your favorite hair highlight color as hair highlights will give your hair an extra twist and emphasize the cut. Punk hairstyles look absolutely fabulous so if you love this type of hairstyle don't hesitate to choose one that suits your personality best.
Sindhi Cap A traditions of lover and care

Sindhi cap is probably the most colorful gift from pakistan. It is a tradition shul costume of south eastern provice of Pakistan called Sindh.
Sindh stands out for its colorful embroidery and glasswork; the Sindhi Topi as it is called in Sindhi round in shape except that a portion in front has an arch cut out to show the forehead
Sindhi cap comes in two varieties – hard and soft. The hard variety will keep its shape when not worn but the soft variety can be folded and even put into one’s picket. Most Sindhis, rich or poor, own a Sindhi cap.
SMS: Spam, Marketing gimmick, Solicitation

There was a time when eating was considered our national pastime. Now, there are some Pakistanis who spend more time sending SMS text messages than chewing. Several people I know would rather exchange up to 20 messages on a topic or to arrange a meeting than place a quick phone call. In my opinion, Pakistanis enjoy texting for the privacy it affords us in lives that are otherwise short on solitude; for the ability to multitask that it extends to us (text on the treadmill! SMS while shopping!); and for the liberty it affords from unnecessary takalluf and gup shup – there’s only so much that can be said in 100 characters.
Increasingly, SMS text messaging has taken on ‘feel good’ proportions – cash aid in Kenya is distributed via mobile phones and needy recipients get a text message when their funds become available; blood donors have been recruited using two-way group text messaging; and students at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro are texting environmentally important information to experts sitting continents away. Indeed, text messaging (and the mobile phones that enable it) is a key tool for contemporary development.
For its convenience and revolutionary potential, I have always enjoyed texting. Lately, however, SMS messages have become the greatest irritant in my life. Two out of every five messages I receive are spam – a gibberish amalgam of symbols and text, an advertisement, a riddle, a prayer or instructions on how to pray, a plug for a television show, a homeopathic remedy, or a solicitation from a political party.
Just yesterday, I received about eight spam text messages. One was a prayer specifically to be read when it rains so that in turn for each raindrop that falls on me I get a blessing (given that it hardly rains in Karachi, I suddenly feel deprived of a shower-worth of blessings). Another SMS invited me to join the Facebook group of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. And a third related a parable about a sailor stranded on an island: he builds a small hut in which to store food. One day, the hut burns down and the sailor thinks God has forsaken him. The next day, the sailor is rescued and his rescuers say they saw his smoke signal. Moral of the story: “Trust Allah when misfortune happen. His plan r always great than ours.”
Many cellphone-toting Pakistanis have fallen victim to spam SMS. But I only realized the extent of the spammers’ depravity when, after the recent death of a family member, I was obliged to include my mobile phone number in an obituary notice. I expected to spend the day fielding calls from friends, family and well wishers who needed directions to the mosque or graveyard. Instead, I received a host of spam texts – condolence messages on behalf of Altaf Hussain, instructions for prayer, invitations to various dars (religious gathering), and a slew of advertisements for generators, garden furniture, luxury condos, cheap plane tickets, limo services, liposuction, and more. What kind of person trawls obituary notices for cellphone numbers so that they can send out SMS messages?
Sadly, it seems as if text messages are beginning to stand in for the public sphere in Pakistan. We spend less time in markets and on the roads for fear of suicide attacks and shootouts and, as the frequency of theft, kidnapping, and carjacking increases, we’re increasingly suspicious of each other. No wonder then, the screens of our cellphones are standing in for the streets, parks, and other public spaces of our real life. Forget pamphlets or door-to-door sales – just send a text message. Don’t bother chatting up someone – just send an anonymous text message. And certainly don’t bother checking if someone’s religious or political views align with yours before you begin proselytizing – just send a text message.Tweeting from the wicket

Imran Yusuf laments the glorious sound of leather on willow being drowned out by the tones of tweeting.
Let me go for it at the start, Imran Naziresque, on the attack from word go: I hate Twitter. I hate the word, its squeaky sound, its babyish look. I hate the very sight of it. I see the word and I feel the blood rise. And I hear sounds, loud sounds, discordant and screechy: the uninteresting blabber of an uninterested generation. Twitter is a warning, a cheap, chirpy high-pitched alarm, showing us the future in all its apathy and incoherence, its numb sensitivity, its artificial joy.
An Imran Nazir innings would usually be over in the time it takes to read the above paragraph, so I’ll stop my blasting and now return to more conventional cricket blogging. Cricket and Twitter were in the news together last week, with Australia’s Phillip Hughes revealing the confidential team news that he’d been dropped before it had been officially announced. It turns out that several other cricketers are tweeting away too: England’s Jimmy Anderson and Graham Swann are having a friendly contest about who can get the most followers. Everyone seems to be at it, from the hip, young gun-slingers to the merry old men of the game.
I’ll try to leave aside my bias for a moment to look at this rationally. What is the purpose of a Cricket-Twitter union? As the Hughes incident shows, players can’t use the site to reveal team news. That rules out inside gossip and exclusives. Also, in interviews and press conferences, players virtually never show great insight into their sport, relying mostly on clichés and already known facts. And even if the players did have something valuable to add, it’s unlikely they’d delve too deep into the eternal mysteries of the game in a mere 140 characters.
Cricket is lucky to be the sport probably best served by literature. Its history also includes some of the great sports commentators of all time. Players should play, which is what they’re good at, and leave the talking and writing to others.
But what of older cricket men, those in possession of a fine turn of phrase whose very job it is to reflect on the game? I have loved David Lloyd ever since I first heard his voice. His digressions, often illuminating and original, whether he’s talking about local food or girls in the crowd, are best served accompanied by his vibrant Lancastrian accent, not written down in text-speak as in his Twitter posts. His banter about escapades with fellow Sky Sports commentators, such as Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussain and Ian Botham, is like a bad, embarrassing, old-man version of Entourage, a television show about young men in Hollywood, which is already bad and embarrassing.
Then again, perhaps Twitter belongs in the modern game. Why rage against the inevitable? In many ways, it is an ideal medium for the the overpaid, undercommitted modern cricketer. It is emblematic of a generation who believe it is worthy of public broadcast that they are feeling a bit down this Tuesday morning because of their cushy job, or that they are in a good mood because Starbucks is selling its favourite Frappuccino, or they want to make you LOL with an oh-so-witty comment.
In an age when the young cricketer can barely play an innings longer than 10 overs – and some of them have at least been honest enough to admit they don’t even want to – Twitter is the perfect mode of communication. We are the ADD generation – minimal work, maximum pay. It’s evolution. It’s short and snappy and it makes me happy. It’s entertaining, and people love it.
So as you can tell, I am no big fan of Twitter, and I’m glad no Pakistani player has signed up so far (and so far as I know – I have long suspected that Younus Khan fancies himself as something of a comic genius and he might be tweeting under a pseudonym). Twitter is boring and self-indulgent and, because it is available to anyone, makes anyone think they deserve a platform to air their views, however derivative and dull, however uninformed and unformed. (A bit like blogging, one might say, though for obvious reasons I won’t.)
It’s like the old saying that everyone has a novel in them. For most people, that’s where it should stay – inside.
Imran Yusuf lives in Karachi. He compulsively follows Pakistan cricket, which drives him mad. He also writes about Pakistan cricket, which keeps him sane.
The purest forms of art

Dawn recently printed an article by Huma Yusuf titled ‘Beyond the Culture War’. The article was a brave and imaginative discussion of various issues concerning the possible uses of the arts in Pakistani culture. I should like to debate some points made in the article and others omitted.
Ms. Yusuf quotes the poet Fehmida Riaz as saying there is no place for poetry in Pakistan because most Pakistanis are illiterate and because the literate with power have no respect for poetry. Ms. Riaz did not, I am sure, intend her remarks to be taken too literally, but meant them as an expression of her despair, which, in many ways, I share. So the following remarks are not an attack upon her.
Contrary to Ms. Riaz’s predictions, I should like to say that in my 36-year acquaintance with Pakistan, I have observed a great love of poetry and music among the illiterate poor. Sadly, it is now rarer than it was before General Zia-ul-Haq unleashed a major assault on Pakistani culture. Indeed, the history of Pakistan carries a cautionary tale about the arts and people. We may, therefore, find it helpful to illustrate the uses of art in a country by observing what happens when they are attacked and go missing.
Since today’s Pakistan bears little resemblance to the wonderful country to which I came in 1972, I shall not mention the locations of what I shall describe. We live in times where the truly sacred is now threatened by barbarians masquerading as devout people and by profiteering philistines. What follows is an account of art in its purest form, now threatened or gone.
Somewhere in Pakistan, years ago, every Thursday night, I used to attend qawalis during which people were utterly entranced by some of the most beautiful music and poetry I have ever heard. Qawali is poetry of the highest order set to music of equal quality. At the sacred place where these enchanting meetings took place, the women were congregated around a balcony on the first floor of a hall and looked down on the lower floor filled with men. Leaning over the balcony, the women would loosen their long black hair and wave those black cascading tresses rhythmically with the music.
Down on the ground floor of the hall, men were engaged in a different ritual. They were giving offerings of money to the singers and players, whose utter dedication to their music suggested they were in another world. Every now and then, groups of young men would approach the musicians with offerings of modest sums of money. Often different numbers, of up to six people, holding a single rupee note (a lot of money for them, so they shared the honour) made their way, like supplicants, to the musicians and placed the money reverently at their feet.
The musicians seemed not to notice these offerings. They were apparently transported by their own music and were on a mission to bring divine ecstasy to the people. It brought tears to my eyes and to those of my wife, who stood with me, in jeans, unmolested among the courteous young men around us.
In that setting, we heard great performers such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and we listened to these miraculously talented people free of charge in the company of people who seemed to be indescribably happy. Commerce played no part in the sung prayers (true prayers, not tedious words uttered by rote) that were being loosed from powerful bows of feeling by the singers, flung like arrows straight up to heart of God as well as into all of our hearts.
Never have I known a purer form of art, nor felt such shared, unquestioned love. This was sacredness in its ancient, original form. And I doubt that anyone in the congregation, other than my wife and I, could read and write. On these occasions, I knew a degree of civility – human fineness would be more accurate – rare in this world and becoming ever rarer. The sweet innocents around me were unaware of their own nobility, but I would not have swapped their company for that of kings.
On another occasion in a very different part of the country, a Pakistani friend and I attended an annual two-day celebration of one of the greatest thirteenth-century scholars of this region. Think of that! Illiterate people, with reverence not envy, paying their deepest respects to a scholar for his literacy and wisdom. Where else in the world is such an event to be found?
The celebration takes place in one of the most beautiful shrines in all of Islam and is attended by village, country, and nomadic people from hundreds of miles around. They come dressed in their finery and, though poor, they looked magnificent.
Men and women gathered together under one great lofty dome below which, at the centre, lay a sarcophagus covered in crimson velvet. Around this central tomb, where the great scholar lay, people circulated slowly, while a single young man, unaccompanied by musical instruments, sang naat, and that too with such beauty that I stood transfixed and light-headed for two hours. I was lost to time in ecstasy.
On this occasion, unlike my usual custom in Pakistan, I was dressed in European clothes, but never, not by a single glance, did anyone in that great domed hall of people ever give me the slightest impression that I might be a stranger or that I did not belong there. I felt as if, after wandering the world pointlessly for most of my life, I had come home at last. The circulating men pressed little white sweets into the palm of my hands as they passed me by, not looking at me nor expecting a response, I was simply one of them. I belonged there.
When I was eventually urged out of the mazaar by my friend, just outside the main gates we came upon a group of musicians playing what I recognised immediately to be the original music from which Spanish flamenco derives. In my youth, I spent years in Granada, Spain, home to arguably the finest architecture and garden in all of Islam, the Alhambra. Above that palace, in the mountain caves, live gypsy singers, all of whom migrated to Spain from the Indus Valley hundreds of years ago. Las cuevas (the caves) of Granada, along with Seville and Cordoba, comprise the traditional centres of gypsy culture in Spain. The gypsies of Spain (the word derives from the legend that they came to Spain across North Africa through Egypt) flourished during the golden age of Islam in Spain (711-1492), when Islam was the only light in a dark Europe.
As I stood outside the gates of the mazaar, I found myself among people with whose distant relatives I had spent many happy years in Spain. And now these Pakistani ‘gypsies’ were playing the original form of the flamenco I knew so well and thought I would never again hear live. In the 1950s, when I was there, the most poetic form of gypsy music was called cante jondo (deep song). Once again, I had to come to Pakistan to find my way back to a world destroyed by commerce elsewhere; to rediscover something sacred that is now on the verge of destruction in Pakistan too – destruction by neglect, ignorance, the indifference of money grubbers, the blindness of upstart gundas turned politicians, and by the violent arrogance of pseudo-religious thugs. So, yes, Fehmida, I know what you mean.
So, may I conclude by saying to Ms. Yusuf, thank you for your imaginative and passionate article, but, alas no, art cannot humanise us. Rather, it is a sign that we are already human (in a sense almost forgotten). Archaeologists date the arrival of homo sapiens in the world by the traces of art they left behind. Art was then a celebration of life, an act of worshipping a beautiful world, which is now being destroyed by ‘progress.’ These ancient remnants of art show the earliest expression among people of their sense of what is sacred. We need art because when we lose that sense of the sacred, we destroy the world to which we truly belong, and replace it with savage doctrines and wastelands. No poet, to my knowledge, ever expressed the attack by modern civilisation on culture better than W.H. Auden, in his poem The Shield of Achilles. Read it and weep.
You might ask how can we push back the barbarians who are out to destroy what is truly sacred? I have no idea, but we can at least try by being kind to all living creatures that are not unkind to us. We should try to remember the greatest words ever uttered: Peace be upon you.
Lest we forget

As the anniversary of the fall of Dhaka approaches, I find myself becoming emotional again. It’s the same every year: an overwhelming sense of loss and bewilderment mixed with anger that the tragedy which befell us on December 16, 1971, has been pushed into the periphery of the nation’s collective memory.
At times, I become so overwhelmed by my own feelings that tears come to my eyes. The mistakes, the injustices, the terrible suffering, and the barbaric treatment, both of a people and an ideal. The very foundation of Pakistan was shaken violently in that bitter winter of 1971.
It is perhaps strange that I should feel so strongly about an event, or rather chain of events, which took place a few years before I was even born. I also admit to having no direct familial, ethnic, or any other connection to the land that was once known as East Pakistan.
I cannot remember the exact moment when it first struck me, the fact that Bangladesh was once a part of Pakistan. But I do remember that India was the consummate villain; Indian influence created rebellion in the eastern wing and Indian military intervention caused it to finally break away. At least that’s what the history textbooks in school told us.
Then there came a time when a couple of us were no longer willing to toe the party line. A rare heated discussion ensued during a Pakistan Studies class when, drawing on what had been heard at home or in a discussion on television, we insisted that the Pakistan Army and West Pakistani politicians were to blame for the debacle. The teacher was mildly interested; everyone else in the classroom carried on with their doodling and daydreaming.
It took a history course at a university in a far away country for me to pick up Brigadier Siddiq Salik’s 1978 book Witness to Surrender (Urdu version: Mainey Dhaka Doobtay Dekha), which is based on his recollections of the events leading up to the war of 1971 and the consequent loss of the eastern wing.
Posted in Dhaka as the army’s public relations officer at the time, Salik has recounted the particularly poignant moment in March 1971 when a despondent-looking Lt. Gen. Shahibzada Yaqub Khan, the commander of the Eastern Command, exited the room after failing to convince GHQ to desist from using force to quell the unrest. Resting his hand on Salik’s shoulder, Yaqub Khan quoted this verse by Daagh Dehlavi, an outstanding Urdu poet who was also the step-grandson of the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar:
Academy Awards Short Film Short List Revealed

The Academy Awards short list for Live-Action Short Film has been released and thanks to In Contention, you can even watch trailers and excerpts of most of them to form an opinion about the category that, sadly, is most often referenced by the mainstream as the Oscar pool tie-breaker. Personally, I'm a big fan of the format because it requires a lot of storytelling and filmmaking ingenuity. Before the most recent Oscars, in fact, we interviewed nominee Steph Green after featuring her film in that category, New Boy. I asked her what she felt the biggest misconception about shorts is. "Maybe that they take a short time to make because they're short. People always sound so shocked at how long it actually takes," Green said. "Sometimes that's because there are so few resources, and you're begging and pleading to get things. In fact, you may shoot for a very, very short amount of time, but New Boy took months and months [from beginning to end]." Here's this year's hopefuls, and remember, this list will be trimmed to five eventually:
BMW C1-E: concept - October 6, 2009

The BMW C1-E provides exemplary protection for its rider. This is ensured by the safety cell with the conspicuous roll-over bar which dynamically spans the rider seat in combination with the energy-absorbing impact element at the nose end. A further special point is that the C1-E rider wears a seat-belt. In the study this safety feature is highlighted by red belts and belt buckles.
Visually the concept vehicle expresses brand typical sheer driving pleasure and clearly distinguishes itself from typical scooter looks. Its lines are dynamically stretched and flow horizontally with a low visual centre of gravity. The fairing with its windscreen, the luggage space behind the rider and the side stand for effortless parking ensure high suitability for everyday riding combined with a high degree of wind and weather protection.
The electric motor employed in the study has been designed for city use and is based on components by the company Vectrix. The motor obtains its power from a lithium-ion battery and thus possesses sufficient power for mastering most inner-city traffic riding with ease. Alternatively the vehicle could also be equipped with an efficient, low-emissions internal combustion engine.
The safety features of the C1-E have been taken from the former BMW C1 and further enhanced. BMW’s avant-garde two-wheeler is regarded as a milestone in safety on two wheels. It is the only motorised single-track vehicle to be exempt from mandatory helmet wearing in almost all European countries.
This BMW Motorrad study is to remain the only model of its kind. Series production is currently not planned. Nevertheless, findings from the project will find their way into other future developments in the field of single-track vehicles.
eSUM stands for European Safer Urban Motorcycling. It is a cooperation project between major urban European motorcycling centres and motorcycle manufacturers. The cities currently involved in the project include Paris, Rome, Barcelona and London and the manufacturers are BMW and Piaggio.
The advantage of two-wheeled transportation is that it offers a great opportunity for improving the flow of traffic in urban locations. Moreover, it is environmentally friendly and lends itself to individualisation. However, the vast majority of accidents occur in urban traffic, in areas where 80 percent of the population live. The idea behind eSum is to look into ways of countering this trend. The joint goal is the identification, development, and practical demonstration of measures which are able to guarantee safe motorcycle and motor-scooter transport in the inner-city traffic of the future.
One of BMW Motorrad’s major concerns over the last twenty years has been the improvement of motorcycle safety. This was amply demonstrated by the consistent strategy which has led to the Motorrad ABS and continued with its long-term ongoing development. Only a few weeks ago, on August 31, the 1,000,000th BMW motorcycle with Integral ABS, a BMW K 1300 R, left the production line in Berlin-Spandau.
Since 2005, a series of further active safety features have been developed to enhance the safety BMW motorcycles still further: RDC Tyre Pressure Control, ASC Anti-Slip Control, the new Race ABS and the DTC Traction Control incorporated in the new BMW S 1000 RR, not to mention the innovative range of BMW Motorrad rider equipment.
Over and above this, BMW Motorrad is also conducting research into forward-looking rider assistance systems designed to increased road safety, as part of the ConnectedRide project. Features being looked at include cross-traffic and traffic-light assistance as well as a warning system for impending poor weather, road obstacles, an approaching emergency vehicle, or sudden braking manoeuvres.
Toyota FT-86 Concept - October 6, 2009

Flash Red body color contains hint of blue; interior expresses modern feel with minimal coverage of the highly refined structural components evoking enthusiasm for cruising This year, the Toyota-brand exhibit continues its theme from the previous Tokyo Motor Show: “Harmonious Drive—A New Tomorrow for People and the Planet”. This theme expresses TMC’s commitment to making cars that brim with individuality but that are also in harmony with society.
The Toyota-brand display will include a compact rear-wheel-drive sports vehicle that embodies the joy of driving and the pleasure of ownership—the fundamental appeal of motor vehicles. The display will also feature environmentally friendly concept vehicles including a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHV), the type of vehicle considered best suited for widespread use to effectively meet CO2 emissions restrictions and the diversification of energy, and an electric vehicle (EV) suitable for short-distance trips.

Hues Of The Website
‘First impressions,’ if hold true then website colors are the defining element in a web site. The colors of the website should be the prime concern of web designers while designing a website. This is because it is what either attracts or distracts the viewers at the first glance. The colors used in a website can make it look either monotonously plain that bores the visitors or so contrastingly chaotic that scares them away altogether.
The web browsers can only recognize 256 colors, out of which only 216 colors are shared commonly by all the browsers. Thus, while designing the key elements of a website, the designers should strictly restrict themselves within the 216-color pallet.
If one ventures outside this said limit, then the colors that are used would not even exist within that browser. The browser has to mix the non-existing colors. For the colors to get displayed, the browser will need to borrow tiny dots from the colors native to form the approximate color. This is known as ‘dithering.’ Some displays distort the tiny dots to the point where the image is becomes so speckled that it fails to appear as a solid color. And if the text is placed over the dithered color, it becomes extremely hard to read. This is why only browser safe colors should be used when using solid color as a design element. But even some of the browser safe colors require caution.
The eye muscles tire out after prolonged exposure to bright colors. The back of the eye contains a thin layer of tissue, on which are placed millions of tiny light sensing nerve cells called rods and cones. The cone triggers off response mechanisms to different light wavelengths. When the eye is made to concentrate on bright colors continuously, the cones become tired and fatigued. Then the opposite cones start to function and cause illusionary visibility of coloration. And prolonged concentration causes the eye muscles to strain and tire out.
Even caution signs are usually painted in yellow. It is because pure yellow strains human eyes the most in comparison to any other color. And thus, it is the first color that catches the eye even in a chaotic set up.
Thus, bright colors like yellow and red should be used very sparingly and judiciously on the websites. An overdose of these colors would just irritate visitors and makes them leave. They should only be induced in areas that need special attention! If there is a particular area which requires more focus than the rest of the page, then that are could be highlighted using these bright colors.
The use of colors can make or break the consumer traffic towards the website. It’s best to make a wise choice.!

In return, the main reason for which people buy used cars is because it can fulfill the dream of people whose level of income is comparatively low. If the used car satisfies the style, performance to the buyer, then endorsement can be done by the seller.
Used cars for sale can be found and they can be done even online too. As internet is possible for gathering information on everything which we need, the information regarding the used cars for sale is also possible in internet. The car sellers publish advertisements on their cars which is for sale in popular websites. The best results can be obtained if the full details of the car along with its pictures are published. The mode of payment can be done by credit cards or by money brokers etc.

Samsung has started to update their line of handsets designed for the younger crowd. They seem to be having success with designing these phones that are targeted specifically to certain groups. They are expanding their target with their latest, the Corby S3650. Take a look at this short article on the S3650 and see if there are a few things about it to interest you.
Samsung designed the latest Corby to fit in with different lifestyles. The TXT version looks something like a blackberry. It is geared towards, you guessed it, the folks who like to do plenty of texting. It is a downgraded version of the Corby PRO. It has a two megapixel camera and is limited to EDGE networks. It is capable of handling instant messaging, a few social media programs, and has a nice looking screen. The keyboard is directly under the screen and has a QWERTY setup. One of the cooler things the Corby TXT has is color. Samsung has designed these with different colored battery covers. Some are brightly colored and with detailed designs while another is basic black. You can mix and match I suppose, if you are fashion conscious. The prices on the Corby are a great marketing point for Samsung. It will be available at the end September 2009.
The other Corby S3650 model is the PRO. It is a full side slider and comes with a heftier camera that weighs in at three megapixels. The phone comes with a 2.8 inch QVGA display and is a touchscreen. The hardware keyboard is a nice size and is easy to type with because of the QWERTY layout. This model comes with the regular quad band GSM networks as well as GPRS and bluetooth. You have an external memory MicroSD slot for more memory and you can use the new MicroSDHC card which is faster and comes with the FAT32 format just like your old Windows operating systems. You have SMS, MySpace and Facebook applications already included with the S3650. The PRO and the TXT models come with a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack and video capabilities.
Genuine Italian Cooking

Gourmet Italian Food
Sometimes, you could be mislead into thinking that you know about Italian cuisine just because you eat at those Italian restaurants. Do you know that more than 90% of so-called Italian restaurants are not really authentic Italian restaurants? So all this time you could be eating at an Italian restaurant that does not really serve authentic Italian dishes. You have been eating so many Americanized Italian dishes that you do not really know how Italian spghetti really tastes like. But Italian cuisine is unique on its own, and you only need to know main qualities that make Italian dishes authentic to know if you are eating the real thing or not.
The first thing that you will need to evaluate is the flavor. Italian cuisine is famed for being simple. You can hardly find an Italian dish that explodes with too much flavor in your mouth. The American style of cooking is just too strong with too much spices and additives added to the dishes. However, Italian cuisine is all about the right balance of flavor and restraint. Even in the strong Italian dishes, there is still the element of balance that pervades in the entire flavor. Italian love to let the natural flavor of the ingredients just show through the entire dish and not hide them with different spices. The pasta sauce is always a great gauge of whether you are in a real Italian restaurant or not. For example when you order a dish like spaghettini ai frutti di mare, do you taste more of the the pasta sauce than the seafood? If so, you must be in the wrong place. Italians make sure that their tomato sauce is just there to complement the food and not to hide the original flavors of the pasta or the seafood. You should also try looking at the sauce and whether it sticks to the pasta since thta means that you're most likely eating homemade pasta. Homemade pastas are unlike dried pastas in that sauces stick to it a lot better. The wonderful thing about homemade pasta is that you do not get that heavy feeling after eating an entire dish and you do not feel bloated as well.
Even when baking cakes or other pastries, Italians always incorporate fruit zests and peels in the desserts. Sometimes they may add some fruit liquor but one thing that you will notice in Italian desserts is that they are taste light. The reason for the lightness is because Italians are not fans of adding to much sweeteners. Most of their recipes wont need heavy cream or margarine. The resulting dessert tastes uniquely that of its ingredients and isn't that sweet so that the flavor is retained.
Word of Mouth Spreads

You're much more likely to buy a product or a service that you hear about from a trusted source such as a friend. Your friend has no reason to lie. When a product or service is offered to a customer it's only natural for someone to consider the source before taking the plunge. The more positive experiences that a customer hears from their peers the more likely they are going to be swayed toward a similar course of action. Face it. There's no sales pitch that's so great that it hasn't been heard before in some form or another. After all we live in the information age. People are inundated by messages coming from every direction. Audiences have gotten a lot smarter and a whole lot less trusting of messages that come directly from the marketer. Word of Mouth Marketing is an umbrella term for a number of marketing approaches such as buzz, viral marketing, influencer marketing, blogging, loyalty programs, and leveraging social media. They all rely on word of mouth to some extent and they take advantage of existing networks to facilitate exponential growth.
Networks begin when people form connections with others. The strength of a network is based on both the reputation of the members in the network and the sphere of their influence. For word of mouth marketing to work in an organization's favor they must earn respect through instituting transparent policies that eschew anything that can be perceived as deceptive or manipulative. Word of mouth can work both ways. It can be positive or negative. Transparency is important because it establishes trust by showing your customers that you have nothing to hide. If you are perceived as being deceptive or manipulative then you will not be brought into any network with any considerable amount of influence because the mere inclusion of you lessens the value of that network. Permission based Email Marketing is an ideal way of generating good word of mouth because you begin with a network in the form of a list of opted-in subscribers. The keywords here are permission based. They are already receptive to your message or else they would not have opted in to your list.
Word of mouth marketing in emails often relies on viral components such as forward to a friend links at the end of a message. While viral marketing may sound scary its actually a good thing. In marketing its any strategy that encourages people to pass along a marketing message to others in their network. The term viral is unfortunate because people often associate that word with computer viruses. Computer viruses are bad. Viral Marketing is good. A message goes viral when it creates exponential potential for exposure by taking advantage of your subscriber's existing networks. Like a virus… For a message to go viral however it is not enough to simply add a forward to a friend link to the bottom of the message. The message must be worthy of being forwarded. Think about subjects or material to use in your mailings that are likely to get people to want to forward your material to their friends. Also think about what is likely to get people to talk. The great thing about forward to a friend is that it is trackable. You could include a forward to a friend link through your email marketing software and then use A/B split testing to test multiple campaigns to see which one generates more word of mouth.
Keeping risk factors low is essential for positive word of mouth. This includes offering incentives such as discounts. For example you could send out a mailing that includes a discount for your subscriber and for the person that they forwarded your mailing to. Just be sure to cap off any incentives that you offer to prevent a customer service nightmare. Avoid rewarding people based on how many people your subscriber forwarded your mailing to. Such practices lend themselves to abusive handling of your mailing. It also gives your message the unsavory perception of being spam. You can avoid this by capping off discounts at a fixed rate such as 15% off for all parties involved. Another incentive is offering something that is free and therefore poses no risk to potential customers. Free 30 day trials or free versions of software that contain links to your product are both examples of things you can do to generate word of mouth. As are the policies that you use. A positive customer service experience is essential for positive word of mouth. A 60 day money back guarantee gives you good word of mouth because it lets people know that you are willing to let them try your product risk free.
What you need to do to generate positive word of mouth extends well beyond email marketing. You should make it easy for your customers to contact you by providing a phone number, address of a physical location, support area, and possibly even live chat. How easy it is to contact you is something that people will talk about. You should also offer ways for your customer to leave you feedback in public and private. People listen to what their peers have to say. Allowing people to leave comments on blog posts, documentation, and forums can give you a vehicle for generating word of mouth. Ultimately, however, it comes down to how well you match appearance with reality. Its one thing to have good policies but its another to follow through on them. You will ultimately be judged on how responsive you are in handling the good policies that you put in place.
The Advantages Of Living In A Condominium

When it comes to the best types of housings, many Filipinos have considered that condominiums are the best. Compared to houses and other types of housings, many have found condominiums as the perfect living space for its many benefits. So what are the benefits of purchasing a condominium unit from buying a house?
Location One popular benefit why many have come to live in a condominium is the location. Condominiums are commonly found in small footprints of a city, such as the many makati condo found in the city. Being within walking distance or short transit to business districts, as well as with its commercial areas, owners could easily avoid the stressful rush hour to work. Other than its location, condominiums are also known for its luxury.
Luxurious Life Another great advantage of buying a condominium unit from a house is an affordable luxury. Most condominiums and makati condo are known for their facilities such as recreational areas which can be used freely by every condominium unit owner. This is because these facilities are jointly owned by all the unit owners in the building.
Affordability One apparent reason why many Filipinos have come to choose to buy a condominium unit is its affordability. Although most affordable condominium units are found in the outskirts of a city, these condominiums does provide a more relaxing setting compared to those found in the cities. Compared to buildings, these types of condominiums are usually found in luxurious complexes complete with high security, resort facilities such as swimming pools, gyms, parks and playground equipment.
However, compared to apartments, many Filipinos may find apartments to be more affordable than condominiums. One particular type of apartment is the Studio type apartments. These kinds of apartment usually consist mainly of a large room which is the living, dining, and bedroom combined. Studio type apartments tend to be the smallest apartments with the cheapest rents in a given area. The advantage, however, of condominiums particularly the many makati condo is the type of ownership.
Difference of condominiums from apartments What defines a condominium from an apartment is the form of ownership. The same building developed as a condominium (and sold as individual units to different owners) could actually be built someplace else as an apartment building (the developers would retain ownership and rent individual units to different tenants). How to Lose Weight in a Week
-----Click Here for a Dr. Approved Weight Loss Program-----
10 minutes of exercise a day
This is not asking a lot. It is only 10 minutes! The reason I say this is because below you will see that I say you need to eat plenty of fiber. This is so you have a bowel movement more often and get rid of that other yucky fecal matter that is left in your body. But to do that you need to get your insides moving around. So either walk for 10 minutes, you some crunches for 10 minutes, or any other sort of exercise. This will also burn off some of those extra calories that you may be eating. If you want to lose fat in a week, then burn those fat cells that are ready to leave your body.
Don't eat as much
I am not saying starve yourself. Instead of eating a full plate of food, eat half a plate. Make sure you get three of these small meals a day. Since you want to lose weight in a week, this should help you burn fat quicker. This will keep her metabolism going and burn off the calories. It only slows your metabolism down if you eat one meal a day.
Eat fiber
Whether you eat more fiber or take a fiber supplement, this will make you get rid of all that extra fecal matter that's inside your body. It is said that your body can hold over 10 the 20 pounds of fecal matter. Get rid of it by eating more fiber. Getting rid of the extra fecal matter will allow you to lose weight in a week.
Drink plenty of water
Drink plenty of water. Most people do not even get six glasses a day. Your body holds an extra 5 pounds of water if it realizes that you are not drinking enough. This is because it uses this in emergency situations. Just try not to over drink either. Water will also get you to have more bowel movements just like eating fiber. This should definitely get you to lose some weight in a week.

Cell Phone Lookup: Top Online Directory Review by Paul Rogov
So, if you want to learn how to do this kind of search without getting ripped off by some of the fraudulent sites that exist on the Internet, just keep reading and you'll find out all you need to know.
Reverse Cell Phone Lookup - Don't Get Scammed
The first thing you need to learn about searching wireless numbers is that results of such searches are NOT free. That's the long and short of it.
And the reason is simple.
Cell phone carriers like Nextel, Sprint, and Verizon do not provide directories to the public for the wireless numbers they service. They don't publish a free directory and they also don't publish a paid directory.
Instead, they lease their most current information to third party data brokers known as reverse cell phone directories. These directories sell the results to people like you and me.
The wireless carriers aren't the directories only source of information, but I can assure you the directories pay the largest amount of money to these carriers.
So, when someone like you or me comes along and wants access to the results of a reverse cell phone search, we have to pay a small fee for the reasons just discussed above.
And, with all that said, do you honestly think there are companies on the Internet that will undercut these directories so much that they will actually offer results for this kind of search for free? Of course not!
The sites that offer "free" results are actively looking for suckers who believe they can get results for free - despite the facts. These sites don't give anything away.
They always charge a fee in the end - and usually for outdated and inaccurate information. And sometimes they don't even supply that. But they will still take your money.
So, if you are looking to get fast and accurate results for a reverse cell phone lookup, make sure you work with a reputable directory like Reverse Phone Detective.
What I consider a good directory is one that doesn't make me pay money up front to search through their database and also enables me to get all of my money back if I am not satisfied for any reason
How to avoid malware and spyware by Cyrus Jackson
The problem is most people are not very clued up when it comes to internet security, some people will browse the web on an old web browser (Internet explorer 6 for example) and no anti virus, this alone is a very dangerous combination as IE6 is vulnerable to all kinds of exploits and without any anti virus protection you could be a victim to a 'drive-by' web exploit.
Drive-By exploits - A drive-by exploit is when a malicious website is setup that attempts to automatically install malware or spyware once a user visits it. Users are often lured to the site through malicious links in emails or various other advertising techniques whereby a user thinks the page contains something of real value. These exploits are normally '0-day' which means that have been recently discovered by hackers and most the time will not have any kind of fix for them, because of this the success rate for infection is normally quite high. With a drive-by exploit unless your Anti virus manages to stop it you will have no idea what has happened and malware will be silently installed onto your machine.
With this is mind then its important to always use an up to date browser (personally I recommend firefox) and an up to date anti virus. It also wont hurt to use a malware scanning tool such as MalwareBytes AntiMalware to do a weekly scan of your system to make sure your not infected.
Remember that no anti virus / anti malware software will ever offer 100% protection, new threats are constantly being created and it can take time for anti virus vendors to find these and add them to their detection lists. This is why it is important to excercise caution whilst online; never visit any suspicious links and always be careful with what your downloading!

You Must Live In The World Of Independent Film
There is a general perception amongst the public that the art of filmmaking these days belongs to Wall Street and major studios with giant budgets. But the fact of the matter is that you really do not need millions of dollars to make an independent film. You can make a movie for a fraction of what most Hollywood films cost if the right people and film production methods are employed. However, if you want to make a quality low budget movie on a shoestring budget you must immerse yourself in the world of independent filmmakers.
Most people who watch movies never even consider the fact that they could actually make a film themselves. When they hear that Spiderman 3 cost about 250 million dollars to make and the latest movie about Billy The Kid starring Brad Pitt cost around 40 million, a low budget movie by Hollywood standards, who can blame them.
There are ways to circumvent the traditional movie making process to get your film made. For instance, if you can assemble a tight cast and crew of talented people who are just as passionate about independent filmmaking as you and are willing to do more than they are being paid to do, then your film production costs can be reduced dramatically. They keys to making an independent film with a small amount of money is finding people who love to make films and then selling them on your story.
To find independent filmmakers who are willing to give you more work for less pay in the name of artistic freedom, or just because they need work you need to go to places where they hang out. This can be done online at any of the film production based websites out there that post job listings and information about the film industry. You will find many of them by doing a Google search with keywords like independent filmmakers, independent film, or film production. These sites list jobs, production companies, cast and crew available, post production houses, film labs and just about anything that has to do with making movies.
You can find most of the information you need to make a low budget movie online, but if you really want to find a quality cast and crew you need to get down in the trenches where the independent filmmakers work. You need to go and meet them in person.
The best place to find potential crew members is to visit the equipment rental houses in your area. You can get their addresses by doing an Internet search using the keywords film equipment rental with the name of the nearest major city. This is where the camera people, sound people, grips and the like all go to pick up and drop off equipment for projects they are working on. Many of the people working behind the counters are also people who have their own equipment packages. They would love to get out from behind the counter on weekends to work on an independent film. Spending time at these places, whether you are renting equipment or posting your business card on their work board is a sure way to find quality crew members to work on your low budget movie.
The best way to find quality actors who are willing to work for much less than they are worth is to spend time at professional acting classes. You can find many of them by doing a Google search using the keywords acting classes with the name of the nearest major city in your area. Contact the teachers of some classes and ask them to allow you to sit in on a couple of their classes. Be up front and tell them you are looking for quality actors to be in your low budget movie.
If you really want to get to know potential actors for your film then it would be a good idea to enroll in a class or two yourself. You can forge a working relationship with the actors on a much more intimate level if you are in a class with them. If the class is large enough, you are always going to find at least a few good actors who would love to work on your independent film for very little pay. You may even learn a thing or two about how to act yourself. If you can play one or more of the roles in your movie then that will also save you money for it means less actors to pay.
