Introductory Post: New Blogger Kelly Guimont

Howdy! (That's a traditional greeting from Out West.) I'm a new blogger here on TUAW. I made an appearance here from Macworld 2008 when I demonstrated software on the show floor. I've been a Macintosh user in some form or another since very early on (I drew with a turtle and don't understand versions of Oregon Trail that are anything but green), and I'm currently Leopard Certified.

I live in Portland, Oregon, which is a great place to be a Mac Geek since we have three Apple retail stores and loads of Mac places besides. My current setup is a Unibody MacBook and an iPhone 3G, but I still get some mileage out of my 80gb iPod and I still have a PowerBook G4 and a blueberry iMac DV around in case I need them -- you never know!

My house has a lot of gadgetry (right now the network has about a dozen IP addresses assigned) and general geekery: Star Wars, Disney, and Lord Of The Rings tidbits are all over the place.

As writing goes, I've written all sorts of things for all sorts of reasons/groups/publications such as Mac|Life and local computer magazines, blogged here and there, and written short stories and other pieces just for fun.

In my copious amounts of free time, I help organize events within the Portland Tech community including Open Source Bridge and Beer and Blog, and I am the head of the Portland WordPress User Group, spreading the blogging love wherever I can.

I am very excited to be part of TUAW and as I'm sure anyone who knows me will tell you, I can't wait for you to hear what I have to say! :)

North Carolina Blogger Charged With “CyberStalking”

Maybe Jeff Martin just has a crush?

Probably not.

A North Carolina blogger has been charged with cyberstalking after reportedly sending 27 emails in one hour to a fellow blogger who disagreed with him on a dam project in the region.

Mr. Martin, who writes the blog “Vie de Malchance” (In English this means “Life of Misfortune”) and Dr. Mary Johnson who pens the blog “Dr. J’s House,” have reportedly been at each others throats for some time.

Mr. Martin claims she is “crazy” and has posted more than 400 comments on his blog opposing his views and has called her a “woman scorned.”

Dr. Johnson had no comment to a local news network.

FreeRyanToday.com disagrees with Mr. Martin!

First, anyone who uses the url fecundstench.com may be a “tad” crazy.

Second, even if Dr. Johnson disagrees with you, the point of blogging is to comment back and fourth on each others blog. And really, 400 comments over the course of several years is not that many. Although it may hint at a bit of obsession, depending on the time frame.

Not everyone agrees what I write that’s for sure, but it wouldn’t give me the right to send 27 threatening emails in an hour!

Now that is crazy, buddy!

(Although I have thought about spamming a certain Premier to get my point across about his ridiculous taxes, ha ha!)

As much as I love my blogging — and have been known to spend a quiet Friday night at home doing it — I think people this obsessed give all bloggers a bad name.

You grew up in America!

How bad could your life be fecundstench?

Unmasked ‘Skanks’ blogger threatens to sue Google

Rosemary Port, a blogger who was recently unmasked as the author of a spiteful blog targeting a fashion model, plans to sue Google for revealing her identity.

Last year, Port, 29, created a blog on Google-owned blogger.com called ‘Skanks of NYC’, featuring images of 37 year old New-York-based model Liskula Cohen (pictured), along with offensive remarks relating to her sexual practices, appearance, and hygiene. The site – since deleted – was apparently created as a revenge attack on the model, who had allegedly spoken badly of Port to an ex-boyfriend.

Shocked by the blog and considering a defamation suit, Cohen instructed her lawyers to identify the creator. New York state supreme court judge Joan Madden ordered Google to turn over the identity of Port. Google responded by providing an IP address and email address identifying the 29 year old.

Although she initially launched a US$3 million defamation suit against Port, Cohen had a change of heart and dropped the lawsuit. Explaining the about-face, Cohen said:

This is about forgiveness. It adds nothing to my life to hurt hers. I wish her happiness.

Port is far from happy, however, and plans to sue Google in a US$18 million lawsuit for capitulating to the court and revealing her identity.

Port’s lawyer, Salvatore Strazzullo, said:

I’m ready to take this all the way to the Supreme Court … Our Founding Fathers wrote The Federalist Papers under pseudonyms. Inherent in the First Amendment is the right to speak anonymously. Shouldn’t that right extend to the new public square of the internet?

The next Pulitzer Prize could go to a blogger

Journalists are having an identity crisis. The introduction of internet-only news sites and blogs has muddied the waters when it comes to the once simple question of who is a journalist. Writing exclusively online has excluded many journalists for consideration when it comes to the prestigious Pulitzer Prize .

The Pulitzer Prize, awarded by Columbia University, has previously excluded many online journalists for consideration, but I am happy to say that has changed. The Associated Press has reported that a requirement, which would have limited entries to websites which are “primarily dedicated” to original news coverage, has been dropped from all 14 award categories. This opens the door to allow blogs and news websites to be considered for inclusion in award deliberations.

Now you won’t be seeing me clearing off a space anytime soon for my Pulitzer Prize, but it is a honor and refreshing to know that is at least a possibility. The Pulitzer Prize committee has planted a stake in the ground for what it believes to be journalism, now it’s time for other organization to follow suit.

Punk Hairstyles Ideas for Girls

There has always been an attraction related to punk hairstyle, probably due to the “bad attitude” given off by the cut. Because this type of hairstyle was considered very daring, many women did not dare to opt for a punk hairstyle. Going short as a woman can be pretty scary but this year so many women and celebrities decided to let their inhibitions go and give the short cuts a chance.

Because going short is not an option for everyone hairstylists have created beautiful punk hairstyles on medium as well an on long hairstyles. The cut is what gives the edge and the cool look to the hairstyle so punk hairstyles don't keep count of hair length anymore.
Hairstylists have created a variety of stylish short haircuts which suit women perfectly so short hairstyles have become one of the most popular hairstyles of the year. Punk hairstyles have a bit more of a twist implemented through the cut and the new hair cutting techniques give an amazing look to the finished hairstyle, depending on the desired result.

For women who love punk hairstyles but still want to maintain a feminine look, hairstyles that are cut longer on top and shorter on the sides are a great option as they offer more versatility to the style. Faux-hawks as well as side swept pointy bangs that cover a bit of the forehead look great with short punk hairstyles. Choose the length that works best for you and your face shape. Oval face shapes work best with short hairstyles and round face shapes should avoid going short as short hairstyles frame the face and emphasize the features.
Medium length and long hairstyles look gorgeous with punk cuts. Choppy layers and sharp cuts give this hair length the punk style they need. The new punk hairstyles can have blunt bangs created on straight layered messy tresses. For a very distinct look go for the razor cut hair on the side of the head and braid a Mohawk on top of your head. This is a show stopping hairstyle that attracts attention like a magnet.

Choose a natural hair color or highlight your hair using your favorite hair highlight color as hair highlights will give your hair an extra twist and emphasize the cut. Punk hairstyles look absolutely fabulous so if you love this type of hairstyle don't hesitate to choose one that suits your personality best.
